  • I’m a bit annoyed that this conversation doesn’t get into any specifics. I feel like Matthew Ball just wants to rope in a bunch of tech, wait for them to get a little better, then declare them the metaverse and that he was right.

Do I need to read his refreshed book? Is there going to be some product or experience that sounds appealing and well thought out but is impossible with today’s technology?

  • This looks amazing, and the first book of theirs I'd like to have. I liked previous From Software games but not quite this much. Yet Elden Ring is a masterpiece.

I wonder how much will be out of date given the revelations in the DLC. Or will they revise it?

  • Two new(?) thoughts on Apple Intelligence running all those models locally on devices.

This is going to severely impact battery life on iPhone. If anyone can take the drain it's Apple devices, but still. I think people will notice.

iOS 18 should also be much larger in terms of file size because of all these models. Good that everything starts at 128GB, but again, we'll feel the impact more severely this year.

  • I'm rebuilding my personal blog using Hugo. It was on Hugo before, but I'm working to write it the correct way. So many of my hacks are now pointless as Hugo has official support for what I need.

It's an immensely pleasant experience. Though I still harbor an intense distaste for the Go templating syntax. Only Master Yoda would approve.

  • Is Final Fantasy X’s “sacrifice this woman for the good of the world, here’s her sword-guy protector” just a genre now? Because this is that plot.

It would be a real twist if the answer was, “yes, you do have to sacrifice yourself, there’s no way around it.”

  • I love that Vaati says he can type as fast as NPCs can talk. Not a huge flex in From Software games, but I appreciate the added lore. You always have time to check for typos as the person with a masked face laughs softly about nothing in particular.
